North Carolina for the 4th of July

We decided kind of last minute to visit North Carolina for the 4th. I had actually been planning a big family BBQ to have at our house, but this worked out for Reagan. My parents were going to be in North Carolina, and they agreed to take Reagan back to Florida with them after the holiday weekend. The rest of us would be heading down to FL the following weekend. But this would give Reagan some special alone time (without her bros).

I happen to have Thursdays off this summer, so we left Nashville just before lunch.

For this being a last-minute trip, we actually did a lot.

Obviously, we hung out at my parents’ house.

The view of the mountains in North Carolina

Yes, the big kids were there. No, I don’t really have pics of them. They are not as interested in troublemaking as Remy… both bigs usually just lay around and play on their phones. Boring.

West Jefferson, North Carolina

On Friday, July 3, we drove over to West Jefferson. It is one of my favorite little towns. I think we go each time we are in NC. The Ashe County Cheese shop is worth it! They have the most delicious fudge. Ever. Period. If you are within an hour of West Jefferson, go!

We ate lunch at Boondock’s. It was quite yummy. Riley said the chicken tenders were some of the best he’s ever had. He loved them so much that he ordered 2 plates of them. There are not many places he can eat fresh, breaded chicken strips (egg allergy). So he was basically in heaven.

Grandfather Mountain – Boone, NC

On the 4th, we had reservations to check out Grandfather Mountain. Because of COVID and the way of the world, Grandfather Mountain is only allowing a certain number of guests in at a time. It was fun. We drove around, listening to the CD they give you. We got out of the car at a few of the suggested stops.

After taking pics with two huge rocks, we bought stuff in the gift shop. Then we walked around the zoo. Reagan had her heart set on walking across the swinging bridge – it’s a mile up. Riley did it last year on one of his special trips. Naturally, Reagan had too. Unfortunately for her, when we got up to the bridge, the sky opened up. It was simply POURING. Not a light sprinkle, a massive dumping of rain. She was less than pleased. Looks like we will have to go back.

I was asleep with Remy before the fireworks began. Apparently, you can see a bunch from the comfort of the couch. I hope to see them next year.
