A Weekend in the Mountains

Even though it’s only been a few months since we last escaped for a weekend in the mountains, it feels like forever. Quarantine will do that I suppose. I started back to work (insert happy dance) the week before Memorial Day. I’m quite excited to get dressed, get out of the house, and have something to do each day.

We planned a while ago to spend the Memorial Day weekend at my parents’ house in Boone. At first my parents were not planning to be up there with us. They spent all of quarantine there, and since Florida began opening up, they traveled back south. But they missed us – ok, they miss their grandkids. Whatever. The point is, they joined us for the weekend.

And it was just what we needed.

We mostly just hung out… On Saturday morning, Stu and I went for a walk down to the waterfall. The walk down was leisurely and pleasant. I remember thinking this was too simple. The walk back was a totally different story! According to my FitBit, it was equivalent to 16 floors! I was dead (which shows how out of shape I am).

After we showered up, we all (minus Grandpa) drove down to town. Riley wanted to go buy something from the video game store, Reagan wanted to hit the outlets. We decided to divide and conquer, then meet at Chili’s for lunch. Chili’s is one of Riley’s top restaurants. It was glorious to go OUT to eat.

That was essentially it for the activities. We stayed at Grammie’s the rest of the time. Our time included snowcones, naps, church, egg-free pancakes.

And just like that, Monday was upon us. Time to pack it up and go home. Before leaving, we took pictures with by our Christmas tree out front. My mom and dad planted 3, one for each of their daughters… Who each tree belongs to has been up for some debate. I assumed they would go in order from left to right (oldest to youngest). I think Steph agreed because she and Zach posed with the far right tree at Christmas. This would mean the middle tree is for Jackie, the middle kid. Makes sense, right?

Well, the middle tree is dead. I snapped a pic and told Jackie her tree had died. Then, the tree claiming and justifications broke out. I lost.

Fine. Whatever.

Here are our pics, with our dead middle tree.
