Ep 6: Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) and My Boys

One of the ways that food allergies can be treated, if your doctor allows it, is through Oral Immunotherapy (OIT). This should only be done in a doctor’s office, under medical supervision. Essentially, OIT is where the food allergen is [very] slowly introduced to the patient. The patient is monitored throughout the entire process. The hope and goal is to teach the immune system that it does not need to be worried about this allergen.

Our doctor had hoped that Remy would grow out of his egg allergy… typically this is by age 5-6. And she wanted to see Riley’s units trend down enough for him to be eligible for the OIT program.

Unfortunately for Riley, his numbers are way too high. The doctor wants him to be around 2-3 before beginning the oral immunotherapy. Riley was last at 47. Honestly, I am not sure this will ever be an option for him. I wish that were not my gut feeling, and I pray for medical advances in food allergy research. But this is where we are.

In this week’s episode, I mention that we have separate utensils and such for the boys. I wrote about that a while back. I will put together an updated one soon. Below, I have linked some of my favorite kitchen finds…. things I love and that make life easier. Yes, they are affiliate links 😘

Products I love and actually use:

I bought this in April (2023) and have had zero problems or issues. They are beautiful and functional.
I have the teal one. Absolutely no egg product has been used on my mixer.
I used to have two – one larger and one slightly smaller. This one, is exclusively egg-free.
