Halloween 2020: A Recap

This year, in true 2020 fashion, was unlike anything I had planned. Although Halloween in 2020 was unexpected, we made the most of it.

No Halloween Party This Year

For the past seven years, I have hosted a huge Halloween party: The StuCrew Boo Bash. It’s a lot of work, but this Bash is something I look forward to each year. I spend months planning, days setting up the house, hours and hours cooking.

The 2020 party had been on our calendar since January. As we were going through the tornado and quarantine madness, the Boo Bash was the light at the end of the tunnel. It was going to be epic.

Stu was going to miss it this year. His mom was not doing well, and he was in Florida with her. He helped me get the basement ready before he left. Nathan (amazing dude) and others came with tables and chairs from church. The week of the party, things started looking sketchy. We had a small spike in COVID cases at school… I felt it was probably irresponsible to host a large party. So I made the difficult decision to cancel it.

This cancelation turned out to be fortuitous. My mother-in-law took a quick downhill turn, and hubs asked that the kids and I come down to Florida. We left on the morning of the StuCrew Boo Bash.

Happy Halloween from Florida

And that brings us to Florida. Last year, we experienced our first cold Halloween. This year, we were back in the heat. The kids and I stayed at my parents’ house. And so Remy and I trick-or-treated in her ‘hood. Riley wanted to pass out candy to all the cute neighborhood kids. Reagan was SO excited to jet off to a Halloween party with some Florida friends.

Remy was completely uninterested in wearing the Lightning McQueen costume we picked up that morning. But he was in LOVE with the 2 candy baskets he made me buy – a Bullseye one and an Alien from Toy Story. We practiced trick-or-treating at the neighbor’s house. He caught on lightning fast – get it? Ha.

It turned out to be a perfect night. The storms were rolling in, so the temps had gone down a few degrees. We made it back to the house about 10 minutes before the heavens opened up. I could not have asked for anything better.
