Kayne Prime in Nashville
For my birthday this year, hubs made reservations for us to try Kayne Prime. It’s an upscale steakhouse in the Gulch (trendy neighborhood in downtown Nashville). Stu has been dreaming of trying wagyu beef for years, and this was his chance. Actually, the recommendation came from his brother and sister-in-law. Kayne Prime is their favorite.
Stu wouldn’t tell me ahead of time where we were going. He just said I should dress nicer than a usual dinner out… you know, dressy leggings.
This restaurant is a maze. One room after another. Some with only one or two tables. It is interesting. The design makes it feel very private. When we first sat, we were the only ones in our “room”. But as our meal went on, more people joined us.
The first thing that our waiter said, after he greeted us was “Are there any food allergies we should be aware of?” This stuck out to me. I have never, not once, been asked that. As an allergy mom, I appreciate this question so much. I spoke to one of the managers about it later in the night. She assured me that they are capable of handling the major allergens, and the staff is knowledgeable about handling food. Now I just have to find a reason to take Riley in for an expensive dinner.
Bring on the delicious grub
We sat and perused the menu. Stu zeroed in on the wagyu options (there are several). I was game. We decided to split the wagyu ribeye. For our sides, we chose the charred broccoli and the potatoes gratin. My sister-in-law HIGHLY recommended the bacon cotton candy appetizer. And though it sounded delicious, Stu wasn’t going to eat any of it. I didn’t want to eat it alone, so we chose the popcorn lobster.
I was NOT disappointed. This was buttery, smooth, incredible. The generous portions of lobster were soaking in a creamy, dreamy butter sauce and topped with popcorn. I will never be able to eat regular popcorn again. And I will have dreams of this appetizer.
Bring on the wagyu!
Dinner came out. We were nearly giddy. But our steak was overcooked… way overcooked. I wasn’t going to say anything because I truly detest being that person. Stu and I both worked in the food industry before, I have empathy for the staff because I know things get chaotic and mixed up.
But this steak was well done. We ordered medium. I ate one little strip, and honestly it just wasn’t thrilling. I probably would not have eaten anymore of it.
Our waiter came by and noticed the steak, then he sent the manager over. Everyone profusely apologized. We were offered a new one, properly prepared.
I’m so grateful for their insistence. The medium wagyu was the stuff steak dreams are made of. It was so tender, it simply melted in my mouth.
The staff went above and beyond. They brought out fresh sides too. It was essentially a redo on our dinner.
The sides were culinary perfection. I ate them the next day for lunch. The broccoli has a wonderful kick to it, and the potatoes are cheesy and creamy. It’s impossible to pick a favorite.
For dessert, I ordered the banana bread. It is served warm and a la mode. Heaven.
I had the best date night/birthday dinner. It was the perfect night out. Thank you Stu. Thank you to staff at Kayne. We will be back.
