Our Top 7 Halloween Movies

In addition to spooking out our house, we LOVE to binge a handful of Halloween-ish movies. These are our top 7 Halloween movies to watch.

#1 Hocus Pocus

I mean, I feel like this is a no-brainer. Isn’t this movie at the top of everyone’s Halloween playlist? I have loved this movie since it came out. Reagan and Riley have been watching it for years. We can quote every line. It makes me happy. From August through October, we watch Hocus Pocus at least once a week.

Hocus Pocus is available on Disney+.

#2 Hubie Halloween

Hubie Halloween is the most recently released Halloween movie on our list. But it became an instant classic in our house. Quite honestly, it rivals Hocus Pocus for the top spot. When I was making this list, I asked Riley what his thoughts were. He said, “Hocus Pocus and Hubie are definitely tied for 1st place.”

Hubie Halloween is the brainchild of Adam Sandler, and it is available on Netflix. And it features all of his friends… think of it like Grown Ups at Halloween. We laugh through the entire thing. A lot of the humor is grown up, so parents might want to preview it first.

#3 Ghostbusters

Perhaps this might make some people mad, but my kids prefer the 2016 remake to the classics. The 2016 flick was a total blockbuster flop, losing about $90 million. But we are still big fans.

Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon & Leslie Jones are hysterical in just about everything they do. So, even though the rest of the world might dislike it, we watch their version of Ghostbusters several times a year (not just in October).

We also have viewings of the OGs from the 80s. And you can bet that we will be checking out the newest reboot, Ghostbusters: Afterlife when it hits theaters in November this year.

#4 The Addams Family

How can you have a Halloween movie list without the Addams Family? You can’t. Although there is a sequel, we prefer the first one.

#5 The Haunted Mansion

Although The Haunted Mansion was mocked by critics, it actually made twice as much as it cost to produce. So success there. This Eddie Murphy flick is so bad that is fantastic. The movie was released in 2003. If you’ve been on the ride at Walt Disney World, you will find some similarities. The movie is family-friendly, not spooky or gruel phantoms… just “grim, grinning ghosts who come out to socialize”.

The Haunted Mansion is available on Disney+. Check it out if you haven’t already had the pleasure. Let me know what you think.

#6 Halloweentown

Ok, this is like the cheesiest movie, but it gives me all the Halloween feels. It was released in 1998. And it is available on Disney+.

This is a family-friendly Halloween flick that should be on everyone’s watchlist. The best part about this movie is that it has SEQUELS! Woot!

#7 Practical Magic

I love this one. It is definitely more for the females in the fam. Practical Magic is a romantic comedy about two witch sisters, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. I can’t remember if Reagan has watched it yet, but she will this year! This movie is not specifically about Halloween. But it falls on my list because of its witchy characters. Magic is fun all year, but it lends itself so nicely to Halloween.

So there you have it, the StuCrew’s top 7 Halloween movies. What do you think of the list? What is your must-watch?
