Thankful in 2020
Even though many believe this year has been a dumpster fire, I still have so much to be thankful for in 2020.
We spent this Thanksgiving in the mountains. Our happy place. It’s actually been a while since we have spent this holiday with my parents. When I cook the Thanksgiving feasts, as I have for the past several years, I cook all of my childhood favorites. Nothing is is quite as good as having Mom actually make them though.
The food was incredible. No surprise there.
The company was hysterical. No surprise there.
Thankful for family
We spent the holiday break hanging at Grammie and Grandpa’s, playing with pups, bonding with our little nephew. I am so thankful for the time I got to spend with this little cutie.
Thankful for overcoming fears
Remy has been afraid of dogs for a while. Once, several months ago, we were at my brother-in-law’s and their itty, bitty white fluff ball barked at Remy. Remy lost his little mind. The fluff ball only wanted Remy to get a toy, he wasn’t being aggressive in any way. But, the damage was done. Remy decided he did not love dogs.
Fast forward to September. My parents adopted two baby German Shepherds. We love Shepherds. But I have been concerned about how Remy would feel.
My sister brought her pups to Mom’s house. Steph has a tiny, white dog named Abby. She also has a super large, black German Shepherd named Bogey. Bogey is the most amazing dog. He is super chill (with his people). I had a feeling he’d be the perfect dog to help Remy overcome his fears.
Video of Remy playing with the dogs.
Bogey worked his doggie magic. Remy was obsessed with the dogs. He wanted to be around them. He helped Grandpa in the garage with them. Remy demanded to accompany them outside on walks. He stood in the hallway, at the baby/puppy gate and talked to them. It was adorable.
Even in 2020, there is much to be thankful for. I am so glad we were able to recharge and reset in North Carolina with my family.
