Visiting the University of Alabama

During spring break (yeah, forever ago), we spent the day visiting the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. My friend Mindy (great name, right?) planned the day trip to her alma mater.

Tuscaloosa is about an hour from Birmingham. So it makes for an easy destination.

Our first stop was for lunch. We went to a fantastic Italian restaurant called De Palmas.  The baked feta appetizer was incredible. I still have dreams about it. My mouth is literally watering as I type this. Riley loved the pizza. He said it was worth driving an hour for… that is essentially the biggest compliment he can give.

After lunch, we drove to the Paul Bryant Museum. It’s on campus, across from the baseball stadium.

Remy LOVED this part of the day. He was walking around saying “BALL! BALL!” Much to Stu’s chagrin, our big kids do not like football. Reagan tolerates it because of marching band. But that is the extent of it. Remy, however, loves it.

The museum is cool. I think even Stu would have liked it. He’s an obnoxious Florida Gator fan, and he was disappointed with the Bama swag we came home with. He’ll get over it.

After the museum, we made our way over to the stadium. Thanks to Covid, no tours are taking place at this time. So that was kind of a bummer. Next time, I suppose.

We had a fantastic time. Reagan has been inspired. She’s been to Murray State (where Stu graduated) and UF of course, but she was very little. I don’t think she has personal memory of either. So this trip sticks out. She loved it – more than I expected her to. It would not upset me if she chose the University of Alabama; it is so close to us. Only time will tell.

Next should we visit Auburn? Or FSU (my alma mater)?
