Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray an 8.5x4.5-inch loaf pan with baking spray.
In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a wooden spoon.
Combine the melted butter with the bananas, then add the sugar, apple sauce and vanilla. Stir well with a wooden spoon.
Sprinkle the baking powder, cinnamon and salt over the banana mixture. Stir to combine.
Add flour ½ cup at a time. Stir to combine.
Fold in the chocolate chips. (Riley says this step is not optional.) Pour the batter into your greased loaf pan.
Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
